Leicester Satellite ImagesThese satellite images have been provided by the Meteorological Office. The visible spectrum picture shows a black and white image similar to what a person sitting on the satellite would see. The infrared spectrum picture shows the same view but looking at a part of the spectrum which our eyes do not detect. The infrared pictures allow the temperature of the cloud tops to be measured, which is used to determine their height, (The whiter clouds are colder than the greyer clouds). Coast-lines and lines of latitude and longitude have been added to the images and they have been altered to polar stereographic projection. The Infrared spectrum images update throughout the day as they become available. Visible spectrum image Infrared spectrum images
